TWEENS CLASS OPTIONS
Jazz and Contemporary/Lyrical
This combination class will expose students to a range of techniques relevant to Jazz and Contemporary/Lyrical. Jazz dance can incorporate a range of dance styles, often depending on the era of the music being used. Often, the traditional technique of Jazz dance is then given a modern flavour. At times, we celebrate past dance movements and fashions by creating period pieces, based on popular dance from that era. It can be almost anything, and our students love the variety that Jazz offers!
Contemporary dance can take many forms whereas Lyrical is an expressive form of dance that can incorporate elements of Jazz, Ballet and Acro, and is often associated with clearly displayed emotional moods and references to song lyrics. This class will learn variations of concepts exploration between lyrical and contemporary. Students will learn one Jazz dance and one Contemporary/Lyrical dance to perform at our end of year concert.
Hip Hop and Pom
This combination class will explore the movements and techniques relevant to both Hip Hop and Pom. Hip Hop is fast-moving and energetic, with focuses on such techniques as breaking, popping, tutting and whacking (you’ll have to come to class to find out what those are!). It looks simple when performed but takes work to perfect! Our students love performing Hip Hop as its high energy moves make it lots of fun.
Whilst Pom might look like cheerleading, it is a little different, but still lots of fun! Pom has the technical dance skills and is a dance based routine using the cheerleading clean and strong arm motions and jumps with the use of poms. It is also performed with pom poms, and can include kicklines, pom throws, and is a high energy routine! But don’t let this intimidate you, it’s also very rewarding, full of new things to learn and promotes great team building! Students in this class will learn one Hip Hop dance and one Pom dance for our end of year concert.
Ballet
As ballet is the core of all dancing, we’re offering our Mover and Mighty students this class stand alone to ensure they’re focusing the majority of the class on barre and centre techniques and exercises to further enhance their overall technique, flexibility, strength, posture and poise. Offering 2 routines to be learnt and refined throughout the year, this class is an absolute must if students wish to pursue their passion for dance as a career or wish to thrive on the competition floors!
For our dedicated Ballet students who have consistently taken ballet lessons over a few years and are continually progressing in their strength and technique, students will transition into Demi-Pointe and are also recommended to take another Development class to further support their journey to go En Pointe.
Tap
Our Movers and Mighty Tappers are stand-alone classes that are based on the LGTDA (Les Griffith Tap Dancing Association) Syllabus which we teach throughout our studio. These classes are based on the student’s ability to ensure it meets their skills and technical abilities and progression as well as challenging students with its intricate rhythms and combinations.
During the year, all tap students will learn a LGTDA Syllabus exam work, which consists of barre and centre, arm rhythms and tap theory. Students are able to partake in annual Tap exams should they choose too.
Our tappers will learn 2 routines for the concerts.
ACRODANCE
Acro Dance is a stunningly beautiful art form. It is also highly athletic, very difficult, and can be unsafe if not taught and executed safely. It is a genre of dance which seamlessly fuses elements of lyrical gymnastics tricks, balancing, tumbling, and jazz. Students learn Acrobatic tricks such as handstands, cartwheels, chest stands, elbow stands, walkovers, side and front aerials, and tumbling lines.
Our AcroDance program follows the Acrobatic Arts syllabus which is a strong, effective, and innovative curriculum. It provides ongoing education opportunities and support for our MJDS Qualified Acro teachers to ensure we’re providing students with the latest safe, efficient and progressive teaching methods.
Our students love their progression charts where developmental skills and tricks are marked off every few weeks to show their progression, and our families love seeing what skills they’ve marked off on the personal online portal.
All AcroDance classes compliment our Mover and Mighty Curriculum and whilst they can be taken as a stand-alone class, we highly recommend it be taken with an additional concert class and/or a development class such as Flex Ability or Dance Cirque.
All of our students start in the Bronze class, and then move up through to Silver, then Gold, then Green. Within these classes are the different Acrobatic Art levels in which you will be invited by your teacher to the next class upon completion of your required skills and progression chart.
CHEER TUMBLE (Non-Concert Class, just weekly fun!)
Cheer Tumble follows IASF and ACSA Cheer level progressions and is specifically tailored for cheer routines and focuses on power based skills with cheer specific skill techniques.
Alike AcroDance, Cheer Tumble focuses on safe progression and techniques, are taught by our qualified and experienced teachers and they both move through levelled programs that allow for individual progression!
Cheer Tumble is designed to be done on cheer mats and sprung floors and is categorised into 2 key components; standing and running tumble skills which can consist of the following skills; walkovers, roundoffs, roll variations, handsprings, back tucks, layouts and more.
DANCE CIRQUE (Non-Concert Class, just weekly fun!)
Dance Cirque is for children over 7 years of age (Movers and Mightys), and is great for everyone, and you don’t need to be a dancer to enjoy it. It works on level cards so everyone progresses at their own pace.
It not only involves an apparatus (silks, Lyra, trapeze) but also a ground act (juggling and hula hooping). Great for cognitive development, strength and flexibility, and mostly confidence.
You don’t need any dance experience, you just need to be willing to try new things! There is a set of skills and drills at each level. Once students have successfully completed the card they will learn a routine and perform their routine in class. They will then get a certificate and move up in levels, still remaining in the same class. It doesn’t matter what level each student is at, or how quickly they are progressing as we encourage each student to work at their own levels within the class.
We work in a circuit rotation allowing the students to work at their own pace with the teacher. Our classes are not gender-specific and have something for every student and also allows them to interact with other students.
Flex Ability and Skills
Our Development classes are designed for students in our Mover and Mighty programs and are ideal for any aspiring dancer! Every student that takes part in these classes will notice a dramatic improvement in all dance styles.
All our development classes also offer students complementary learning materials including worksheets and progression charts to ensure progress and at home support.
Development classes are vital for dancers and will help develop, continually improve and maintain their technique and posture, as well as tone dancers and help them build strength and flexibility. There are 2 development class options for our students to choose from.
Stability, mobility and technique all in one class. This new program, which has been created by the founder and educators of Dance Cirque, has also been designed in conjunction with Injury Prevention Alliance. Students learn industry standard new skills in a safe environment whilst gaining strength, mobility and being educated about the body. Coloured level cards mean students learn in a non-competitive environment and progress at their own pace. Get flexible, learn new skills, make new friends.
This class will work through skill development for students seeking to challenge themselves beyond the curriculum of their age-level. For the first part of the dance season we will return to basics and drill how to execute jumps, leaps, kicks and turns. With the final two terms dedicated towards increasing the students skill set. Students will continue to broaden their knowledge and progressions for jumps, leaps and turns and explore the relationship with them in their routines, allowing for flowing and enhanced choreography.

YOUTH CLASS OPTIONS

INTER CLASS OPTIONS
DANCE CIRQUE
(Non-Concert Class, just weekly fun!)

“Such an amazing dance and cheer studio. The teacher/coaches are extremely supportive and encouraging. I believe they have been operating for 30 years and their experience shows in their methods of teaching all ages girls and boys.
I couldn’t be happier. My daughter used to be extremely anxious now her school teachers tell me she’s becoming more confident and participating in all school activities.
I know this is because of the time at Maxi-Jazz. We are so grateful.”

Senior for Ages 16 – 20 years and up
Our Senior classes are a part of our Mighty Program and offer combination classes and single-style classes. Combination classes consist of 2 different genres (Jazz & Contemporary/Lyrical and Hip Hop & Pom) that complement one another whilst allowing exposure to a diverse range of dance steps, styles, techniques and music. Our single-style offerings for concerts are Tap and Ballet, as well as non-concert classes in AcroDance, Dance Cirque and Development Classes.
Our lessons allow students to really grasp the correct terminology, technique and skills required from each genre and prepare the dancer for whatever path they may choose. They’ll have a solid core foundation to pursue their dance career as a performer or teacher, as well as learn life skills that apply to every aspect of life such as time management, respect, hard work, commitment, confidence and social skills. We also focus on promoting an active and healthy lifestyle.
As students graduate from one age group to the next, they will do so with confidence and ease as the progressions of our class focusses, such as technique and artistry, flow seamlessly throughout the groups.
We also offer our Senior students the opportunity to join our Enhancement Program including our Enhancement Dance and Cheer Teams!

“Maxi-Jazz is a fun, family-friendly studio that I’m so incredibly happy I found! Everyone is so lovely and helpful and the teachers are encouraging towards all students to do their best at all times =) Each year the concert seems to get better and better and the quality of the costumes is always of a high standard. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for a studio for themselves, or their child to come to Maxi-Jazz!”
